Pacific Islander Festival 2012
This coming weekend marks the 18th Annual Pacific Islander Festival. The Pacific Islander Festival is held once a year in San Diego, CA by the Pacific Islander Festival Association to help share and promote the culture, language, arts, and values of the Pacific Islands particularly the Indigenous People of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. For those who don’t know, I am Filipino, but I was born and raised on Guam so this is a little homecoming for me(especially since I haven’t been back to the island since 1997!!). Many of my friends who have since transferred here to the mainland like myself often convene at the festival as sort of a reunion. I haven’t been to the festival the last few years because something always came up or I simply missed the date it was on but hopefully I can make it out one of these days this weekend(the festival is on both Saturday and Sunday). I look forward to maybe running into familiar faces but mostly, I look forward to eating some of my favorite Chamorro dishes. Mmmmm, I can taste the Chicken Kelaguen already.
