Vans presents Bones Brigade: An Autobiography
Back when I first got into skateboarding in the 80s, no skateboarding company ruled the skateboarding world like Powell Peralta did and no other skate team ripped like Bones Brigade did. Tony Hawk, Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Rodney Mullen and the rest of the crew were some of the most influential skaters that I looked up to back then. I remember trying to grow my hair the way Tony did and dressing like they did. I remember the countless hours I spent in class doodling various Powell Peralta graphics, including the McGill skull and snake, the Guerrero flaming sword and the “Bones Ripper”. My first “professional skateboard” was a Steve Caballero board which I remember picking up from the post office on the Navy base in the Philippines and immediately skating in the parking lot. I still remember how stoked I got whenever I would watch the Ray Barbee, Chet Thomas, Steve Saiz, and Eric Sanderson’s section in the Powell Peralta video “Public Domain”
Till this day, the video still gets me hyped to go skateboarding.
All these memories that comes to mind when I think of my younger days and when you bring up Powell Peralta and the Bones Brigade team. Hence you have to understand my excitement when the trailer for the upcoming documentary about Bones Brigade was posted today.
Words can not describe how excited I am to watch this documentary. Hopefully they’ll have another screening in the Los Angeles area soon.
